Storage Fulham Health and Safety Policy
Storage Fulham is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for all employees, customers, visitors, and contractors. This Health and Safety Policy sets out our approach to managing risks across our storage facilities and removal operations, with the aim of preventing accidents, injuries, ill health, and damage to property.
We recognise that our activities, including storage, handling, loading, unloading, and transportation of goods, can present specific risks. We work continuously to identify, control, and where possible eliminate these risks through effective planning, staff training, and safe systems of work.
Health and Safety Responsibilities
Ultimate responsibility for health and safety rests with the management of Storage Fulham. Management will ensure that appropriate resources, systems, and supervision are in place to support this policy and achieve high standards of safety and welfare.
Managers and supervisors are responsible for implementing this policy on a day to day basis. They must ensure that risk assessments are completed and reviewed, that necessary control measures are in place, and that staff follow agreed procedures and safe working practices.
All employees have a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions or omissions. Employees must co operate with Storage Fulham in meeting legal and company health and safety requirements, attend relevant training, use equipment correctly, and promptly report hazards, incidents, and near misses.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
Storage Fulham will carry out regular and systematic risk assessments covering our storage facilities, removal operations, handling of goods, vehicle movements, and associated office activities. These assessments will identify hazards, evaluate risks, and determine appropriate control measures.
Where significant risks are identified, written safe systems of work or method statements will be developed and communicated to all relevant staff. These will include procedures for lifting and moving items, loading and unloading vehicles, stacking and accessing stored goods, and working in and around vehicles and equipment.
Risk assessments will be reviewed periodically and whenever there are significant changes in our operations, equipment, premises, or relevant health and safety guidance.
Safe Handling, Lifting, and Storage
Our storage and removal activities involve frequent manual handling and the movement of goods of various sizes and weights. Storage Fulham will seek to eliminate or reduce manual handling risks by using appropriate equipment, planning work to minimise heavy lifts, and encouraging team lifting where necessary.
Employees will be trained in safe lifting and handling techniques, including assessing the load, using correct posture, and recognising when a lift is unsafe or requires assistance. Heavy or awkward items must not be moved by a single person where this presents an obvious risk.
Goods will be stored, stacked, and secured in a way that prevents collapse, falling objects, or obstruction of walkways and access routes. Racking, shelving, and storage areas will be inspected for damage or overloading, and any defects will be reported and addressed promptly.
Vehicles, Driving, and Site Traffic
Our services involve the use of vehicles for collection, transport, and delivery of customers goods. All drivers must hold the appropriate licence, follow company driving procedures, obey road traffic regulations, and operate vehicles safely at all times.
Vehicle loading and unloading must be carried out in designated areas, using safe methods and appropriate handling equipment. Loads must be evenly distributed and properly secured to prevent movement during transit. Doors, ramps, and tail lifts must only be used by trained personnel and must be inspected before use.
At our premises, vehicle and pedestrian routes will be clearly defined where practicable. Speed limits, parking arrangements, and loading bay rules must be followed by staff, contractors, and visitors to maintain a safe environment.
Workplace Environment and Welfare
Storage Fulham will maintain its facilities in a clean, orderly, and secure condition. Walkways and fire exits will be kept clear of obstructions. Floors, steps, and access routes will be monitored for damage, spills, or other slip and trip hazards and remedial action will be taken without delay.
Suitable welfare facilities will be provided, including toilets, hand washing facilities, and access to drinking water. Lighting and ventilation will be maintained at levels appropriate to the activities carried out, and checks will be made to ensure that building and storage areas remain in a safe condition.
Equipment, Maintenance, and Personal Protective Equipment
All work equipment, including trolleys, handling aids, lifting equipment, and any machinery, will be selected, used, and maintained in accordance with manufacturer instructions and applicable safety standards. Defective equipment must not be used and will be removed from service until repaired or replaced.
Where risks cannot be fully controlled by other means, Storage Fulham will provide appropriate personal protective equipment, such as safety footwear or gloves, and ensure that it is maintained and replaced as necessary. Employees are responsible for using this equipment correctly and reporting any defects or concerns.
Fire Safety and Emergency Procedures
Fire risks will be assessed and appropriate fire safety measures implemented, including alarms, extinguishers, clearly signed escape routes, and emergency lighting where required. Regular checks and maintenance will be carried out on fire safety equipment.
All staff will receive information and instruction on fire and emergency procedures, including how to raise the alarm, evacuation routes, assembly points, and the importance of not re entering the building until it is declared safe. Fire drills will be conducted periodically to ensure procedures are understood and effective.
Training, Information, and Consultation
Storage Fulham will provide all employees with adequate health and safety training, both at induction and on an ongoing basis. Training will cover relevant topics such as manual handling, use of equipment, emergency procedures, and specific safe systems of work related to storage and removal activities.
Staff will be kept informed about health and safety matters that affect them, and consulted on proposed changes to working practices or equipment that may impact safety. We encourage employees to raise any concerns or suggestions for improvement without fear of reprisal.
Incident Reporting and Continuous Improvement
All accidents, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions must be reported as soon as possible to a manager or supervisor. Reports will be investigated to identify root causes and to implement corrective and preventive actions.
Storage Fulham is committed to continuous improvement in health and safety performance. We will monitor our activities, review this policy periodically, and update procedures to reflect changes in law, best practice, or the nature of our operations. Our goal is to ensure that every aspect of our storage and removal services is carried out as safely as possible.
